Grocers on the Green, Food for the Cure Raises More Than $390,000 for Cancer

St. Cloud, Minn. – Coborn’s, Inc. raised more than $196,000 at its 13th annual Grocers on the Green golf tournament Sept. 8. The funds will support St. Cloud Hospital Pediatric Cancer Services at CentraCare Health Plaza, which allows Central Minnesota children and families to stay closer to home while receiving treatment. To date, the event has raised nearly $1.8 million.

Thanks to the generosity of Grocers on the Green participants:

  • Families have more quality time to spend together instead of traveling for medical care
  • Two child life specialists help ease children’s fear and pain during medical procedures
  • Psychological services are available for families even if their insurance won’t pay for it
  • Pediatric Cancer Services staff continually receive education to stay current with improvements in patient care
  • Patients can enjoy toys, books, art supplies, computers, movies and video games

This past fall, Coborn’s and its vendors also raised over $194,000 through its annual Food for the Cure promotion, which supports the Coborn Cancer Center Greatest Needs Fund providing events for couples and families with young children, counseling and educational classes for patients and their families, an endowment to fund disease site-specific registered nurse care coordinators and participation in more than 50 clinical research studies.

“We are so fortunate to have Coborn’s, Inc. — founded by a generous family — in our community,” said Mark Larkin, CFRE, CentraCare Health vice president of Philanthropy. “The dedication of Coborn’s to supporting cancer services in Central Minnesota is phenomenal.”
