Lung Cancer Screening & Nodule Program to Start Nov. 20

St. Cloud, Minn. – A recent nationwide study has revealed that an annual screening CT scan can decrease the rate of lung cancer death by 20 percent! CentraCare Health has developed a program to screen and track patients with a high-risk. The out-of-pocket cost of the screening is $99.

To be a candidate for lung screening, an individual must be:

  • 55 to 74 years old.
  • A smoker or a person who quit smoking less than 15 years ago.
  • Have a smoking history of 30 pack-years. (A pack year is a way of determining how many cigarettes a person has smoked during his or her lifetime. One pack year is equal to smoking 20 cigarettes, or one pack, every day for one year.)

At this time, most insurance plans do not cover this screening, but CMS has recently backed the new screening with hopes that most plans will cover this in 2015.
