CentraCare Clinic – Becker Recognized for Diabetes Care

Becker, Minn. – CentraCare Clinic – Becker, 12800 Rolling Ridge Road, was recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for its high-quality diabetes self-management education. The ADA Education Recognition effort is a voluntary process which assures that approved education programs have met the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs. Programs that achieve recognition status have knowledgeable health professionals who can provide up-to-date information about diabetes management for participants.

Research has shown that diabetes self-management education (DSME) is associated with a dramatic decline in A1C by as much as 0.76% and that the effectiveness of DSME was directly correlated to the amount of time patients spent with an educator. Sustained improvement requires both time and follow-up, which is now referred to as “self-management”.

Self-management education is an essential component of diabetes treatment. Participants in an ADA Recognized program will be taught self-care skills that are individualized to their lifestyle and will promote better management of their diabetes treatment regimen.

“The process gives us a national standard by which to measure the quality of the services we provide”, commented Jennifer Knaack, RN, CSMRN, Site Coordinator. “And, of course, it helps to assure our patients that we provide great care.”
