Keeping our Community Healthy During Flu Season

CentraCare Health - Monticello is committed to ensuring the safety of patients, residents, staff and community. During Flu season, CentraCare Health - Monticello has implemented several precautions to help prevent the spread of the virus on our medical campus including:

    • Asking that visitors with signs of influenza/respiratory illness including a fever, cough, nasal congestion or sore throat refrain from visiting patients in the hospital and Care Center to help prevent the spread of the virus.
    • Urging healthy visitors to wash their hands with soap and water or to use hand sanitizer frequently, including when entering and leaving patient rooms and the building.
    • Providing masks for patients with respiratory/influenza-like symptoms coming to the emergency department and asking them to inform staff of symptoms as soon as they arrive.  Those ill with respiratory/influenza-like symptoms are asked to wait in the area designated for patients with respiratory illness.

To prevent further spread of influenza, the Minnesota Department of Health recommends the influenza vaccination for everyone age 6 months and older unless they cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons. It is especially important for those at high risk for serious complications from influenza to be vaccinated. These include pregnant women, seniors, young children and those with chronic

In addition to vaccinations, other precautions to avoid spreading or catching influenza include:

    • Stay home from school or work if you are sick. Avoid exposing yourself to others who are sick with flu-like illness.
    • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue whenever you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue away. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your sleeve.
    • Clean surfaces you touch frequently, such as doorknobs, water faucets, refrigerator handles and telephones.
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
    • Get plenty of rest, physical activity and eat healthy to help stay healthy.

By educating our community members about flu safety, CentraCare Health – Monticello demonstrates its commitment to caring for every patient, every day.
