St. Cloud Hospital Earns 100 Top Hospital Status

St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud Hospital has been named a 100 Top Hospital® by Truven Health Analytics,™  in the “teaching hospitals” category and is one of seven Minnesota hospitals with the top 100 distinction.

This is the ninth time that St. Cloud Hospital made the list, most recently in 2009.

“This recognition is the result of committed staff who provide the best care possible with compassion,” said Craig Broman, St. Cloud Hospital president. “For patients, this means they have a shorter length of stay, fewer complications and lower mortality rates.”

The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals® study identifies hospitals and leadership teams that provide the highest level of value to their communities, based on a national balanced scorecard. The scorecard measures overall organizational performance across 11 key analytic measures, including patient care outcomes, operational efficiency and financial stability.

The study shows that if all hospitals in the U.S. performed at the level of this year's winners:

  • 126,471 additional lives could be saved
  • 108,926 additional patients could  be complication-free
  • $1.8 billion in inpatient costs could be saved
  • The average patient stay would decrease by half a day
  • Episode-of-illness expense would be 2 percent lower than the peer average

Of 146 hospitals in Minnesota, six other hospitals recognized include:

  • Abbott Northwestern – Teaching Hospital category;
  • Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids – Large Community Hospital category;
  • Maple Grove Hospital – Medium Community Hospital category;
  • Buffalo Hospital – Small Community Hospital category;
  • St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee – Small Community Hospital category; and
  • Woodwinds Health – Small Community Hospital category.
