I CAN prevent diabetes!

Published in Media Releases Author: CentraCare

CentraCare Health - Monticello will host I CAN Prevent Diabetes!, a community-based lifestyle change program that offers diabetes prevention education and support for people with pre-diabetes. This 16-week series takes place every Wednesday from February 15, 2017 through May 31, 2017. Classes are held from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the Mississippi Room in the lower level of the hospital. Cost to attend this 16-week course is $120.

In the United States, 79 million people have pre-diabetes, a condition which occurs when blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. Preventing this condition from progressing to diabetes can take place with the help of simple lifestyle changes.

“The goal of the I CAN Prevent Diabetes! program is to help people take charge of their health by learning how to move properly, eat healthier, manage stress and stay motivated to make positive changes in their lives,” said Paula Redemske, RD, LD, Director of Diabetes at CentraCare Health. "This class is the first step in helping people feel better and gain confidence in taking care of their health.”
