Graduate Nurse Residency
Graduate Registered Nurse First Year Residency Program
St. Cloud Hospital has a New Graduate Nurse Residency Program. This 12-month program provides support resources to the Graduate RN as she/he transitions from academia to professional practice. The new graduates are hired into full-time permanent positions at RN wages. The program runs 12 months in order to provide support during this key transition period.
The program includes hospital and nursing classroom orientation followed by additional clinical orientation coupled with experienced preceptors. Throughout the first year, additional education and support are provided in groups with other new graduates in order to increase knowledge, networks of peers and confidence in nursing practice. In addition to the strong clinical focus, the program provides professional development in the area of delegation, communication and critical thinking.
Areas New Graduates have been hired into: ETC, ICU, CCU, Telemetry, Medical/Oncology, Rehab, Ortho/Neuro, Children’s Center, Mother/Baby, Mental Health Unit (Adult and Adolescent), Surgical Unit, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, OR and Dialysis. Placement is dependent on interview preferences for units and hours, references, work history and experience, clinical student experiences and open positions.
Formal applications for student graduating in spring are available after November. The application includes an employment application, two written references from faculty, a written reference from an employer, and a copy of your current college transcript. We offer a variety of start dates in June, July, August and September for those graduates. For graduates who apply the rest of the year, we fit you into the ongoing program so needed support is provided.
