General Tips
  1. The peak sun exposure time is between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Avoid being outside at these times if possible.
  2. Sun damage occurs at nearly the same rate on hazy and cloudy days. Don’t be fooled on these days.
  3. Sunlight does reflect off the sand, water, snow, etc.
  4. UV rays pass through water, loosely woven or wet clothing.
  5. Lasting sun damage occurs from severe burns.
  6. Apply the sunscreen to entire body 30 minutes before sun exposure.
  7. Cumulative sun damage is acquired from normal outdoor activities (incidental everyday exposure); therefore, susceptible individuals need daily use of sunscreens.
  8. Wear large brimmed hats.
  9. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SAFE TAN!
  10. Self-tanning agents are generally safe. They DO NOT, however, give you added sun protection.
  11. Protect the eyes. Wear UV filtered glasses and sunglasses.
  12. Skin cancers are epidemic. By taking simple steps such as sun exposure limitation and sunscreen use you can help yourself.
