L.I.F.E. Program (Lifestyle, Food & Exercise)

Whether you are simply seeking to lose unwanted weight or need a dietary/health makeover, the LIFE program is for you!

The LIFE program is designed to give participants the knowledge they need to lose weight and gain a lifetime of health through sound nutrition and lifestyle.

Although weight loss is the primary purpose of the program, the evidenced-based principles taught have universal application. These principles also can benefit a wide range of individuals who desire to improve health, prevent disease and extend their lifespan. Moreover, the program teaches the key principles for weight loss that successful patients have in common.

Who might benefit from these services?

Overweight patients Overweight women who struggle with fertility issues, especially polycystic ovarian syndrome patients Patients with conditions such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia or those at risk for coronary artery disease Those who want to improve their health and reduce their chance of chronic disease

Why another weight loss program?
The “epidemic” of obesity facing society is unprecedented in history. The U.S. surgeon general has issued a statement that left unchecked, the consequences of obesity will be of greater cost to society than tobacco! LIFE program participants learn how the most common deadly diseases of our day are associated with unhealthy food choices and lack of physical activity. Adherence to sensible nutrition and a program of simple exercise is the answer to weight control and a lifetime of health. No gimmicks, no tricks, no surgery, no medication, just thorough knowledge of good nutrition. We are not a “diet program” unless one uses the original Greek meaning of the word diet which literally means “way of life.” Through proper eating and living as a way of life, weight loss is straight forward and health is enhanced.

What does the program consist of?
The LIFE program consists of an initial appointment which includes readiness screening, a physical exam and appropriate lab work. The pre-screening exam is done by an advanced practice provider or physician at the Obstetrics & Women’s Clinic. In addition to completion of a thorough health history and a physical exam, testing will include:

Fasting lipid panel TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) Fasting glucose ECG (electrocardiogram) for those with increased cardiac risk factors or over age 40

The educational program consists of seven, two-hour seminars conducted weekly. These sessions consist of extensive education on diet, exercise and nutrition, as well as practical and behavioral aspects. A final session will cover menu planning and food preparation tips.

After completion of the seminar, participants will receive three individual coaching sessions with staff (one per month).

How much does it cost?
Outside of the initial examination, most insurance companies will not cover the cost of weight loss programs. Only some insurance plans currently are covering weight loss programs providing there is a “co-morbidity” meaning obesity-related diabetes, hypertension, etc. Participants will be required to pre-pay the cost before joining the LIFE program. The fee, including three books, seven, two-hour weekly seminar sessions with three monthly follow-up appointments is $350 (with $50 rebate to those who attend all seven sessions).
