Physician receives the Caduceus Award
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The CentraCare Health Foundation selected Nicholas Reuter, M.D., oncologist at Coborn Cancer Center, as this year’s recipient of the Caduceus Award. The CentraCare Health Foundation developed the Caduceus Award in 2003 to honor the outstanding work of Central Minnesota physicians who exhibit exceptional humanitarian medical efforts to improve health and health care in our region or around the world.
For nearly 32 years, Reuter has provided outstanding care to his patients in the
St. Cloud area. He volunteers countless hours and works tirelessly to benefit the local and medical community assuring programs to meet the current and future needs of cancer patients.
Examples of Reuter’s dedication to humanitarian work are evident. He has volunteered countless hours as medical director for the hospice program that he helped develop in 1979. He has volunteered at St. Cloud’s Place of Hope and Project HEAL, providing the healing touch with much needed health care for the homeless. He also helps organize blood drives and has provided scholarship to students in the community who were unable to pay for school tuition. In the late 1990s, he traveled to a remote community in Honduras to provide emotional and physical support by helping to reestablish school and community facilities after they were struck by hurricanes.
Reuter’s professional leadership is extensive. He is one of the founding members of the North Center Cancer Treatment Group in St. Cloud which works with the Mayo Clinic to research methods of treating and preventing cancer. He went on to coauthor several clinical trials in the program.
Reuter is the Medical Director of Coborn Cancer Center. He also serves on the Stearns Benton County Medical Society and the Minnesota Medical Association Foundation boards.
The award will be presented to Reuter at the Caduceus Social May 13 and he will be honored at the CentraCare Celebration of Commitment in September.
Reuter is the 10th medical staff member to receive the Caduceus award.
