Physician receives the Caduceus Award

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Pediatrician Richard Hart, M.D., was selected as this year's recipient of the Caduceus Award. Dr. Hart is employed at the St. Cloud Medical Group and is the 13th medical staff member of St. Cloud Hospital to be recognized by his peers to receive the prestigious award. The Caduceus award will be presented to Dr. Hart at the Caduceus Social Wednesday, May 30.

"I am honored to receive this award," Dr Hart said. "It is a privilege being in a field of medicine which gives me the opportunity to help children and families of this community."

The Caduceus Society is a philanthropic guild of CentraCare Health Foundation. Established in 2000, the society is open to all members of medical staffs at Central Minnesota hospitals or surgical centers that make a commitment of $10,000 or more to support the mission of improving health and health care in Central Minnesota. The Caduceus Society has 122 members.

"Dr. Hart is an example of a medical provider who contributes greatly to the overall success of the hospital and the community," said colleague David Smith, M.D. "His dedication to improve health care in the region is evident."

When Dr. Hart started his career in St. Cloud, he opened his doors to all regardless of their ability to pay for his services. He worked with St. Cloud State University on a program that developed care plans for the most severely disabled children. He also taught emergency medical technician pediatric training in the St. Cloud area and has sponsored various events for March of Dimes and other organizations.

Dr. Hart's professional leadership is extensive. He served as St. Cloud Hospital chief-of-staff, Chair of CentraCare Health Foundation board of directors and Chair of the St. Cloud Hospital Perinatal Committee and Pediatrics Care Center board. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Minnesota Medical Association and Stearns Benton County Medical Society.

His humanitarian efforts include volunteering for the Helps International medical mission team providing care to the people in Guatemala.
