CentraCare Laboratory Services receives award
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – CentraCare Laboratory Services (CCLS) was awarded second-runner-up for the Medical Laboratory Observer (MLO) Medical Laboratory of the Year Award 2009. This award coincides with National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week (April 19-26) and allows medical laboratories nationwide to demonstrate their contributions to quality patient care.
Laboratories were judged on measurable achievements in each of nine areas: customer service, teamwork, contributions to patient care, productivity, efficiency, quality control, innovations, creativity and lab inspections scores.
“It was an honor to nominate CentraCare Laboratory Services for this most prestigious award,” said Laboratory Medical Director, Stephen Bologna, MD, St. Cloud Pathologists, PA. “As pathologists, we work closely with the laboratory professionals to ensure that we are providing accurate and timely test results. I am very proud of the work that our laboratory professionals do. Every day we provide the necessary information for the diagnosis and treatment of our patients.”
Cindy Johnson, Laboratory Operations director, was thrilled to learn of this achievement. “The mantra adopted by CCLS is ‘Patient Safety is Non-Negotiable,’ ” Johnson said. “There have been numerous staff-driven process improvement projects focusing on patient safety. It is very rewarding to work with a team that is committed to excellence. We will continue to strive for the highest quality in laboratory testing because our patients in Central Minnesota deserve the best.”
The winner and two runners-up will be featured in the April 2009 issue of MLO which is a peer-reviewed journal for laboratory professionals since 1969.
