Coborn family makes $2 million contribution to enhance services of CentraCare Health System

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Chris Coborn, president and CEO of Coborn’s, Inc., announced a $2 million contribution from the Coborn family to CentraCare Health Foundation at a Foundation event Tuesday evening. This gift will enhance cancer services at Coborn Cancer Center at CentraCare Health Plaza and support the $225-million construction project at St. Cloud Hospital.

“St. Cloud Hospital has brought hope and healing to Central Minnesotans for more than 100 years through its family-focused care,” Coborn said. “Cancer touches virtually everyone, and we want to help extend hope and healing to those who struggle with this disease. Our family, including the employee-owners of Coborn’s, Inc., is proud to help in the fight against cancer.”

“This is a gift to the health system, but more importantly, a gift to all families across the Central Minnesota community,” said Terry Pladson, M.D., president of CentraCare Health System. “I am so grateful for the Coborns’ extraordinary support during these uncertain economic times. Their generosity will make a profound difference for generations to come.”

“Philanthropy is a critical element in today’s health care industry,” said Mark Larkin, executive director of the CentraCare Health Foundation. “Reimbursements from insurance companies and government programs do not cover the cost of providing medical services and technology. Private donations from generous individuals help bridge that gap.”

Involvement in CentraCare Health System is a family affair for the Coborns. Chris Coborn is a member of the St. Cloud Hospital Board of Directors. Mark Coborn, executive vice president of Coborn’s, Inc., serves on the CentraCare Health Foundation Board, and Dan Coborn, chairman of the board for Coborn’s, Inc., has served on various hospital and system boards for more than 30 years.
