Golf For The Cause raises $9,000 for Women @ Heart Project

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The annual Golf For The Cause event raised $9,000 for the Women @ Heart Project, a program of the Central Minnesota Heart Center at St. Cloud Hospital.

In past years, proceeds went toward breast cancer research through the international Susan G. Komen Foundation.

“This year we wanted to partner with an organization that provided a health service for women in the Central Minnesota area,” said Jennifer Casad, committee member of the July 17 event. “It was important to us that the funds raised stayed within the community. The kick-off year of this event exceeded our expectations. It is our hope to continue our partnership with the Women @ Heart Project into the summer of 2008 and beyond.”

Erika Boike, director of membership and guest services at the St. Cloud Country Club, on Aug. 23, presented the $9,000 check to Bob Johnson, executive director of the Central Minnesota Heart Center; Kathleen Mahon, N.P., coordinator of the Women @ Heart Project; and Mark Larkin, executive director of CentraCare Health Foundation.

“We couldn’t have done it without the hard work of the committee members who organized this event and the generous donations given by so many people and businesses in the community,” Casad said.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for American women. The Central Minnesota Heart Center at St. Cloud Hospital recognizes the need for women to receive specialized care to optimize their heart health. The Women @ Heart Project promotes heart disease prevention while addressing the distinct concerns of women.
