Area couple donates $1 million to new hospitality house
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Benedict and Dorothy Gorecki of Milaca have donated $1 million to CentraCare Health Foundation to build a new hospitality house on property across Sixth Avenue from
St. Cloud Hospital. The new facility will be named the St. Cloud Hospital Gorecki Guest House.
A groundbreaking ceremony will take place Aug. 26.
The St. Cloud Hospital Gorecki Guest House is a non-profit service that provides affordable, temporary housing in a peaceful, homelike setting to families and patients receiving medical care in the St. Cloud community. The new house, expected to open in Spring 2009, will feature 12 guest rooms and several attractive common areas where guests can meet and be supportive of one another. The new house will be paid for through philanthropy. The Gorecki’s $1 million donation is the lead gift of a $2.5 million fundraising campaign to support construction of the new guest house and to increase the operating endowment, allowing rooms rates to remain affordable and help cover room costs for families who do not have the ability to pay.
In April, the Goreckis were selected as the winners of the 2008 Distinguished Philanthropist Award by the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy. They were nominated by the CentraCare Health Foundation for their generous support to a variety of organizations totaling $17 million for various projects throughout Central Minnesota.
