Construction begins on Melrose Area Hospital, CentraCare Clinic

Melrose, Minn. – After years of planning, construction began this fall on a multi-phase project of Melrose Area Hospital and CentraCare Clinic- Melrose at the present hospital and clinic sites. The whole renovation project is expected to be completed by November 2009.

CentraCare officials, contractors and Melrose city officials celebrated, with a ground-breaking ceremony, Nov. 26 just west of the current CentraCare Clinic entrance.

The project includes a new two-story building which will house an expanded
CentraCare Clinic and Melrose Pharmacy serving both the Melrose Area Hospital
and the community.

Once this new building is completed, the current clinic space will be converted to hospital outpatient and specialty services including a new and expanded cardiac rehabilitation space.
A new, larger physical and occupational therapy department will better serve our patients. A new clinical laboratory will be added. The current lab space will be used to expand the radiology department. The project allows the hospital and clinic to share the existing clinic business office.

Remodeling of existing hospital space will change the current clinic entrance to become the hospital entrance. Remodeling also will occur in the hospital emergency room to improve patient privacy and function.

A new employee parking lot is being constructed behind the new building and when that project is completed, the old clinic building, west of the current facility, will be demolished to create convenient parking adjacent to the new clinic and hospital entrances.
