CentraCare physician recognized for volunteer service
Melrose, Minn. – Patrick Heller, MD, CentraCare Health System – Melrose, recently was recognized by Minnesota Physician Publishing (MPP) as a 2012 Community Caregiver for his work with Project Health, Education, Access, Link (HEAL). Heller volunteers several hours each month with Project H.E.A.L. in Melrose and was instrumental in getting that site up and running.
Project H.E.A.L. offers free health screenings and basic care monthly at St. Mary’s Church in Melrose and several other locations in Central Minnesota for those who have little or no insurance.
The goal of Project H.E.A.L. is to overcome the barriers to health care for the under-served population of Central Minnesota — barriers of transportation, inadequate or lack of insurance, financial resources for co-payments and medications, language and culture.
Each year, MPP honors physicians who have volunteered medical services in recent years.
