St. Benedict’s Senior Community Volunteer Coordinator wins state award

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Minnesota Association for Career and Technical Administrators (MACTA) presented JoEllen Johnson, Volunteer Coordinator at St. Benedict’s Senior Community, with the Advisory Member Award on April 24 at the MACTA conference in Duluth.

Johnson was nominated by two employees from St. Cloud Area School District 742 who wrote: “JoEllen Johnson and her staff has become an invaluable partner in several of our Career and Technical Education programs. They are willing to give their time, talent, and treasure whenever asked to help make a difference in the lives of tomorrow’s leaders. They continue to go above and beyond the call of duty whenever asked.”

During the past eight years, Johnson has been an active Health Career Internship Program Advisory Board member. She has assisted with student mock interviews and program speaking. Johnson facilitates the high school interns, who experience hands-on learning at St. Benedict’s Senior Community each semester.

Johnson and her staff have done presentations about volunteerism at District 742’s Non-Traditional Careers Conferences. Instrumental in the creation of the district’s Summer Health Career Academy, Johnson provides a variety of service learning experiences, which the students consistently rate as the best part of the academy for each day.
