St. Cloud Hospital psychiatrist receives national award

St. Cloud, Minn. – L. Read Sulik, M.D., medical director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at St. Cloud Hospital, will receive the 2008 National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Exemplary Psychiatrist Award May 6 at the 2008 American Psychiatric Association’s Annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

The award is presented to psychiatrists who have made substantial contributions to local or state NAMI activities, who demonstrate exemplary commitment and expertise, and provide excellent clinical care to diverse populations. Dr. Sulik was nominated by NAMI Minnesota.

Sue Abderholden, executive director of NAMI-MN, said in nominating Dr. Sulik that he stands out as a leading advocate for children. “He works with colleagues to create solutions to ensure children get the mental health care they need,” Abderholden said.

Steven M. Vincent, Ph.D., L.P., director of St. Cloud Hospital Behavioral Health Services, said, “Dr. Sulik is highly deserving of this award. It is very good to see national recognition for his contributions to patient care, innovations in systems of delivering care, education of professionals, and to advocacy for the health and well-being of children, adolescents and families. His work has benefited the people of Minnesota and the nation as a whole.”
