New physician + new surgery suites = better care From Spotlight on Health - Fall 2012

If you were to suffer an aneurysm or stroke, quick response by skilled staff in a technologically advanced setting would be critical to your survival and recovery.

St. Cloud Hospital’s recent expansion — and the arrival of a new, highly specialized interventional neurologist — enhance the hospital’s ability to handle this type of medical emergency.

The endovascular OR combines the latest surgical technology with advanced imaging.

Muhammad Fareed Suri, MD, who specializes in diseases and injuries involving the blood vessels of the brain, joined the St. Cloud Hospital medical staff this past summer.

The hospital expansion includes 10 surgical suites with state-of-the-art technology, including the endovascular operating room specially equipped for complex vascular cases such as aneurysms, carotid stent placement and stroke intervention.

Before the addition of the special operating room, aneurysm patients would have been transferred to a different facility.

The operating rooms, at nearly 750 square feet each, are equipped to bring data, diagnostic images and video closer to the surgeon and staff — allowing them to make decisions during surgery without having to leave the patient’s side.

Physicians now can view 3D images that help them more accurately and efficiently treat the patient using less invasive techniques. This promotes faster healing and a speedier return to a normal lifestyle. Before this room, it may have taken a patient 6-12 months to return to normal activity; now recovery time is 6-12 weeks.
