Home Family Medicine Residency Research Fellowship
Research Fellowship

First year medical students are encouraged to apply for a primary care research position that will take place during the summer between first and second academic years. This position offers the
opportunity to work one-on-one with a practicing family physician or psychologist involved in clinical research.

The fellowship will allow the student to participate in an ongoing project previously designed by an assigned mentor or the student may choose to design and implement their own research project under the guidance of a mentor.

One student will be selected by committee and then be assigned to a mentor. After meeting with the assigned physician mentor, a research proposal will be submitted to the local IRB and once approval is given the project may commence. At a minimum, the student and their mentor will be expected to present their findings to the Mid-Minnesota Family Medicine Center (MMFMC) as
well as the Minnesota Academy of Family Practice research symposium. Submission for other research conferences and/or publication is encouraged.

The research mentor will be a faculty member from the Mid-Minnesota Family Medicine Center (MMFMC), St. Cloud, Minnesota. The student will work closely with the assigned mentor, but also have the opportunity to work in clinic and hospital settings with other faculty physicians and residents. The MMFMC is the home clinic for the University of Minnesota/St. Cloud Hospital Family Medicine Residency.

A stipend of $2,500 will be given to the student chosen as the research fellow. Housing may be available for students who do not live in Central Minnesota.

Applications are due by February 1, 2009.
