Vacation/Sick Leave

Rest and relaxation away from work are essential. Each resident is allowed twenty (20) days per year of paid time off (PTO). By Board of Family Practice Regulations, combined total absence from your training for vacation, illness or personal business cannot exceed one month per academic year. At our program, one month equals 25 work days for ULR’s (20 PTO and 5 CME) and 20 work days for PGY-1’s (20 PTO).

State and National Boards

You may request paid days off in addition to vacation time without loss of compensation in order to take any necessary state and national board exams. These requests must be approved in advance by the program director.

Free Parking

St. Cloud Hospital provides free parking for employees, patients and visitors. You may park in any of the areas designated for employees, or you may be assigned to a parking location.

Continuing Medical Education

Time for professional meetings and activities without loss of compensation is available to second- and third-year residents and will consist of a total of five (5) days each year. Registration fees and expenses up to $1,000 will be paid by the program.

Dues

The program will pay membership dues to join the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians (www.mafp.org) and the Minnesota Medical Association.

Meals

A meal allowance is provided to residents when they are on call. Meals for lecture series are also paid for by the program.

Moving Expenses

All reasonable moving expenses up to $2,500 (with receipts) are paid for residents who move more than 35 miles to the St. Cloud Area.

Parental Leave

We have adopted the American Academy of Family Physicians Policy on Parental Leave. In accordance with the Minnesota Parenting Leave Act, you may use your sick benefit for yourself and dependent children 17 years of age or younger during residency training. This policy also addresses maternity, paternity and adoption leaves.

Insurance

Residents pay a portion of the premium for medical and dental insurance coverage. Professional liability coverage, life insurance, long-term disability and short-term disability are also provided.

Details of all benefits will be available at the time of your interview.
