Coty Mansager was helping his stepfather grind corn on the family farm, when the auger caught his shirt-sleeve and began to pull him in. The left side of Cory’s face and arm were crushed.
First responders rushed Coty to CentraCare Health System – Long Prairie Hospital, where he was stabilized and transported by helicopter to a level I trauma center in Minneapolis.
“Staff at Long Prairie did such a great job comforting Coty and my husband and I while they stabilized him,” said Cheryl Holmquist, Coty’s mom. “It’s times like this when you’re glad you live in a small town. They gave us so much support.”

Thirty-two days later, Coty returned home to Clarissa.
Because of injuries to Coty’s mouth and jaw, he received speech therapy at CentraCare Health System – Long Prairie.
“It’s so nice to have services like this so close to home,” Cheryl said. “They know who we are in Long Prairie. It’s comforting that they know us and that they care.”

A Foundation of Hope
CentraCare Health System – Long Prairie is a not-for-profit 25-bed Critical Access Hospital, clinic and 75-bed long-term care facility. CentraCare Health System – Long Prairie is proud to be the first hospital in the state of Minnesota to be designated as a Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS) hospital.
CentraCare Health Foundation – Long Prairie offers grants to community organizations that help to improve the health and well being of residents in Todd County. All contributions stay local and are used for programs and equipment that would not otherwise be funded.
This includes:
- Bike helmets for area children
- An automated external defibrillator for the Todd County Community Center
- Remodeling projects at the nursing home, including private spaces for families of those in hospice
- Head wraps and educational materials for chemotherapy patients
- Portable ultrasound for the Emergency Room
- A bariatric treadmill
- An additional ventilator
