A fifty-year-old single father of two, Ronald*, lost his full-time job and his health insurance on the same day.
What made matters worse is that Ronald has a medical condition which requires daily medications — medications he was quickly running out of.
He was referred to Mid-Minnesota Family Medicine Center (MMFMC) by his primary care clinic. He needed to see a physician to refill his prescription, but with only a weekly unemployment check, he wasn’t sure how he’d ever pay full price.
After meeting with an MMFMC Patient Advocate and physician, Ronald was able to apply for our sliding fee discount for medical services. We were also able to provide a free sample supply of his medication. Ronald remains under our care as he looks for permanent employment.
*Ronald is not the patient's real name. A different name and picture was used in this story to protect the individual's privacy.

Providing care — and physicians — in Central Minnesota.
Mid-Minnesota Family Medicine Center is a clinic that provides treatment, prevention, and education to all patients, including those who are underserved or uninsured. And if it wasn’t for the residency program — the only one in Central Minnesota — we wouldn’t have as many rural physicians to turn to.
As the clinic of the University of Minnesota/St. Cloud Hospital Family Medicine Residency program, MMFMC’s goal is to train competent, caring family physicians to practice in rural communities.
