Long Prairie Memorial has two birthing suites that are designed to allow women to labor, deliver and recover all in the same room. The suites offer a home-like setting for the birthing experience, with space for family members to be involved. Each suite has its own whirlpool tub that can be used to provide comfort during the labor process. The tubs also can be used by women who want to deliver their babies by underwater birth.

At Long Prairie Memorial, women have the option of choosing to use the services of a physician or a certified nurse midwife to deliver their babies. Certified nurse midwives are licensed health care practitioners who are qualified to administer drugs, perform medical procedures and provide other technological interventions; we were one of the first hospitals in Minnesota to offer their services.

Our certified nurse midwife provides prenatal, labor and delivery care, as well as physical exams, health screenings and a wide range of early pregnancy and breastfeeding classes. She also performs routine gynecological care, including Pap smears and breast exams, as well as family planning counseling and classes related to women's health issues.
