Imaging Services - Patient Instructions
Enterography MRI
Enterography MRI uses powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to create images of the small and large intestines. The MRI system is able to achieve views of the breast in any orientation or plane to create extremely detailed images of the breast. Glucagon is given during the exam by a nurse to temporarily stop the intestines from their normal movement.
At the time of your test you will be asked to remove any metal from your body. Please make sure to inform your physician and technologist if you have a pacemaker, aneurysm clips or other metal objects. Enterography MRI requires an intravenous contrast injection. The technologist will place an IV in your arm prior to your scan.
During an MRI Enterography scan, time is more limited due to use of Glucagon. Glucagon temporarily stops the intestines from their normal squishing movement but Glucagon wears off quickly. This means that the scanning time must move along quickly with no unnecessary interruptions.
Providing safe, quality patient care is our highest priority. To help ensure quality and safety, we ask that you do not bring young children with you to your appointments, as children are not allowed to accompany you during Imaging procedures. Staff is unable to monitor your child in your absence.
