Imaging Services - Patient Instructions
Red Blood Cell Tag for GI Bleed
This test is done to determine the source of intestinal bleeding. The procedure takes 1 ½ hours.
A sample of blood will be taken from your arm and tagged to a radioactive tracer. It will then be reinjected into your arm or IV. Scanning starts immediately after receiving the blood back and takes about 1 hour. You will not feel anything different from the injected material.
Your doctor will be contacted with the results of your test and will discuss the results with you.
Providing safe, quality patient care is our highest priority. To help ensure quality and safety, we ask that you do not bring young children with you to your appointments, as children are not allowed to accompany you during Imaging procedures. Staff is unable to monitor your child in your absence.
