Background and History

On November 1, 2001, CentraCare Laboratory Services, a branch of the CentraCare Health System, was formed.

Laboratory professionals from CentraCare Clinic-Women & Children, CentraCare Clinic-River Campus and St. Cloud Hospital joined forces to become CentraCare Laboratory Services (CCLS).

CCLS is composed of two specimen collection/testing laboratory sites and one laboratory specimen collection site.

Together we work as a team with standardized instrumentation, policies and procedures, and a common laboratory information system. Our state-of-the-art facilities and instrumentation allow us to provide accurate and timely test results which are critical to patient care throughout central Minnesota.

CentraCare Laboratory Services Health Plaza employees provide specimen collection and laboratory testing for several CentraCare Clinics and St. Cloud Hospital outpatient departments. In addition to the lab testing done in the main laboratory, the staff is responsible for providing specimen collection at several decentralized locations throughout the CentraCare Health Plaza.

CentraCare Laboratory Services River Campus is located at the St. Cloud Hospital. Here, employees provide specimen collection and clinical laboratory testing “24/7.” Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Services, Histology and Cytology departments perform analysis from a broad test menu for our clients. Additional supportive functions are provided by Customer Service, Phlebotomy, Reference Lab (“Send-outs”), Pathology office, Claims analyst and Laboratory Information System staff.

CentraCare Laboratory Services River Campus Draw site is staffed by employees that are responsible for outpatient specimen collection for over 40 primary and specialty care providers at River Campus Clinic. Processing and testing of these samples are performed in the hospital site laboratory.

Providing oversight to CCLS are five Pathologists from St. Cloud Pathologists, P.A., who are board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
