Infant & Child Development Clinic

Our Infant & Child Development Clinic monitors the growth and development of at-risk children in Central Minnesota.

When should you visit our clinic?
We care for graduates of any NICU and children with developmental concerns. Usually, we see children at six months, 12 months, 24 months and 4 years of age. We may want to schedule other visits based on your child’s needs. These clinic visits should not replace visits to your child’s primary care doctor.

What can you expect from your clinic visit?
At each visit, your child will see a dietitian, a developmental specialist and a neonatologist.

  • Dietitian: A dietitian will check your child’s height, weight and head circumference and work with you to create a nutritional plan for your child.
  • Developmental specialist: A developmental specialist will screen your child’s movement, speech and other developmental skills.
  • Neonatologist: A neonatologist is a doctor with special training in the care of premature or critically ill newborns. He or she will give your child a physical exam.

After you and your child meet with these specialists, the neonatologist will discuss your child’s progress with you. If there are areas of concern, you and the team will develop a plan to further assess and treat your child. If needed, the neonatologist will make a referral to a specialist or agency. A few weeks after your visit, you and your primary care doctor will receive a letter that summarizes your child’s progress and provides suggestions for further action.

How much does this program cost?
We will submit your bill to your health plan. Please check your health plan for benefits and coverage available under your plan.
