Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
& Pediatric Progressive Care Unit
Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit provides pediatric specialty care to children in Central Minnesota with unstable,
life-threatening conditions. These conditions include pediatric trauma, near-drowning, complicated asthma, diabetes, pneumonia, ongoing seizures, drug overdoses and sepsis. The program also provides medical treatment for children with severe heart and lung disease. The PICU is staffed by doctors trained in pediatric critical care medicine along with specially trained nurses.
Children in this unit usually require one-to-one nursing
care, expanded monitoring capabilities and, oftentimes, additional
care provided by respiratory therapists, pharmacists and dietitians.
Case managers will assist families with complex care needs.
As children improve, they are able to move to our Pediatric Progressive Care Unit.
Our central location helps families avoid the physical, social and financial burdens of traveling to the Twin Cities during a medical emergency. We know these situations are easier when you are close to home, near friends and relatives.
