Driver Evaluation Program
The St. Cloud Hospital Driver Evaluation Program
evaluates an individual’s performance for safe
return to driving after an illness, accident,
or significant medical event.
State-of-the-art
equipment
evaluates:
- Depth perception
- Visual acuity
- Eye attention
- Traffic color recognition
- Field of vision
- Traffic sign recognition
- Memory
- Way finding
- Problem solving
- Basic driving knowledge
- Reaction time
- Road, lights and lane attention
Special training:
Specialized drivers training is available onsite
via a state-of-the-art driving simulator and
computerized retraining programs.
Appropriate for people with:
- Stroke/traumatic brain injury
- Visual impairments
- Seizure disorder
- Peripheral vascular disease
- Kidney disease
- Multiple cardiac events
- Early dementia, confusion and/or Alzheimer’s
- Amputees and/or joint replacements with
poor/delayed recovery
- Multiple sclerosis or any medical condition
with increased weakness, changes in cognition,
decreased sensation or fatigue
Goals:
- Return to safe driving
- Assess visual, motor, and cognitive skills
- Assess road and dynamic driving knowledge
- Evaluate need for adaptive equipment and
training if indicated
Referrals:
All you need is an order from your doctor,
doctor’s assistant or nurse practitioner.
