Care in the unit includes occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy services for ages 13 and older. Nurses on the unit have worked in rehabilitation, on average, for nearly 10 years.

Patient Room
Nearly all rooms on the 20-bed unit are private and enjoy a scenic view of the Mississippi River. Amenities include a bathroom with a shower, sleeper chair, phone, TV, and wireless internet access. The bedside computer provides the doctor or nurse quick access to a patient’s electronic medical record to ensure continuity of care and patient safety. Cell phones are permitted. Families are allowed to stay with their loved one overnight.

Main Nurses' Station
Staffed 24-hours a day, nurses monitor the hallways and entrance of the unit to ensure patient safety.

Dining Room
The dining room is where patients come together to eat and socialize. Meals are served for all patients, unless they prefer to eat in their room. To ensure patient safety, a staff member supervises patients during meals. On occasion, patients enjoy playing bingo, painting ceramics or making birdfeeders in this space which also features a view of the tranquil Mississippi River.

Family Lounge
The family lounge, available to patients and their families, is outfitted with games, puzzles, books and a computer with internet access. This space also may be reserved for parties or special gatherings.

Patio
Patients and family members are encouraged to enjoy the large shaded patio, complete with wood pergola.

Physical Therapy Gym
Physical therapy may take place in the gym or other locations (outside on the sidewalk, grass, steps, etc.). In the gym, various machines and technology help improve daily living skills and independence.

Occupational Therapy Gym
In the occupational therapy gym patients work on fine motor and cognitive skills, strengthening and problem-solving.

Kitchen
A fully functional kitchen with fridge, oven, microwave and toaster helps identify needs or modifications that can be made to help patients live more independently when they return home.

Speech Therapy Area
In speech therapy, patients relearn communication and cognitive skills using various devices. The mirror helps patients with self awareness exercise programs.
