| Volunteer Services - Application Requirements
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at St. Cloud Hospital.
There are many reasons people volunteer at a place like St. Cloud Hospital. Some have extra time they want to share. Some have an interest in healthcare as a career and want to see if they enjoy the environment. Still others need credit for class or community service hours for a resume or scholarship. Some may have had a career in healthcare and this is an exciting way to re-enter that world, or, perhaps a family member or friend was hospitalized and this is a way to "give back."
Whatever reason brings you to think about giving your time and talents, we appreciate your interest.
By becoming a volunteer at St. Cloud Hospital you will make a difference in the lives of patients and their families by supporting the work of the medical staff and contributing to our healing environment that provides Care Above All.

Qualifications
We ask that you come to us with a positive attitude about service, an ability to learn and follow direction, and the desire to commit to a volunteer position. We do require that volunteers be at least 14 years old and able to communicate clearly in English. We cannot accept volunteers who are meeting court-mandated community service hours.
What you can expect from us is the opportunity to utilize your talents, to hone new skills, and to learn from colleagues who value you as a partner.
Time Commitment
The days and time you volunteer are scheduled according to your availability and the needs of our health system. Typically we ask that you volunteer once a week for three or four hours. Most of our opportunities are during weekdays, but we have some evenings and weekends too.
Important Note: Due to the time and expense it takes volunteers to complete the qualification process, we do require that you give 50 hours or 6 months of volunteer time after orientation. By completing this commitment, it gives our volunteers far more experience within our health system. It also affords us more opportunity to observe our volunteers in action, allowing us to give a more thorough letter of recommendation, when requested.
Application Process
The Joint Commission for Accreditation of HealthCare Organizations (JCAHO) requires new volunteers to complete the following qualification process:
- Application and recommendation
- Criminal background check (at St. Cloud Hospital's expense)
- Health Screening including a Mantoux (TB) test and urine drug test (at St. Cloud Hospital's expense)
- Immunization (or proof of vaccination)
- Interview
- Orientation and Welcome Session
All volunteers must complete our 3-step process: Welcome Session, Application, Interview and Orientation. First attend an upcoming Welcome Session. Then complete the application and submit it to our office. We will then contact you to acknowledge your completed application and give you instructions to schedule a health screening, complete a criminal background check and set up a time for a personal interview. It is at the interview where we will discuss specific volunteer opportunities, schedules and orientation.
Step 1: Welcome Session
Attend a Welcome Session to learn more about the volunteer program and complete part of the orientation requirement.
