1958
Ruth Knevel, the first Volunteer Director, and a group of dedicated and concerned women whose goal was to serve the patients and staff of St. Cloud Hospital organized the Auxiliary. Their early activities included rolling bandages, making puppets, making tray favors, and serving coffee at social events.

Rosalie Timmers begins Candy Striper (Junior Volunteer) program.
1978
250 volunteers and members of the Auxiliary provided services to more than 36 patient care and support departments in the hospital. Most of the volunteer activities and events were designed to reach out to the community and give back to the people that needed assistance.
Some of the Auxiliary fundraising projects included the annual Holly Ball, the holiday fruitcake sale, the Remembrance Fund, and running the coffee shop and gift shop.

St. Benedict’s Senior Community volunteer program begins.

Hospice volunteer program begins.

Senior Helping Hands volunteer program begins.

There were 425 volunteers and members of the Auxiliary. An increasing number of college students and working adults began joining the volunteer program. |
