When having a heart attack, seconds count. The CentraCare Heart & Vascular Center team is ready 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, to open blocked arteries. In fact, we treat more heart attacks than most Twin Cities hospitals.

Why choose us?

STEMI-SC Program

We worked with area hospitals to build a protocol to quickly transfer patients from across Minnesota to our cath labs, saving thousands of lives. One phone call from a partner hospital sets in motion a step-by-step protocol that results in the systematic treatment and transfer of patients. Since 2004, 4,000 patients have participated in the program with their one-year survival rates being 94%.

State-of-the-Art Catheterization (Cath) Labs

Our five cath labs are among the busiest in Minnesota with cardiologists performing:

  • Coronary angiography
  • Balloon angioplasty
  • Stenting, including the use of the Absorb, a fully dissolving stent
  • Intravascular ultrasound
  • Fractional flow reserve
  • Angiojet
  • Rotoblator
  • Atrial septal defect/patent foramen ovale procedures
  • Atherectomy

Research

We actively take part in research studies. If you tried standard care without success, our research program gives you access to new drugs and treatments.

Standardized Follow-up Care

CentraCare Heart & Vascular Center began a new program in 2012 to standardize the care of patients after a heart attack. This program ensures you receive best practice heart care across St. Cloud Hospital. After a procedure, patients recover in a 20-bed cardiac procedure recovery unit. We also have a 14-bed cardiac care unit for adults experiencing critical or potential heart problems. A 36-bed telemetry unit monitors medical and surgical cardiac patients with heartbeat problems.

Quality

Mission: Lifeline(R) STEMI Get with the Guidelines®-Resuscitation Silver Award

The American Heart Association recognized CentraCare Heart & Vascular Center for its prompt, evidence-based care for heart attack patients — all the way from the initial 9-1-1 call to restoring blood flow through the heart. We achieved 85 percent or higher composite compliance with all Mission: Lifeline® Gold Receiving Quality Achievement Award performance achievement indicators for consecutive 24-month intervals and 75 percent or higher compliance on all measures to improve the quality of care for STEMI patients.

We also received the American Heart Association Get with the Guidelines®-Resuscitation Silver Award for implementing measures that improved quality of care and outcomes for the treatment of patients who suffer cardiac arrests in the hospital. The hospital achieved 85% or higher compliance with these measures for one calendar year.

2015 Silver Performance Award Beacon Award for Excellence

We were the recipient the ACTION Registry–GWTG Silver Performance Achievement Award, one of only 91 hospitals nationwide to receive this honor. ACTION Registry-GWTG helps hospitals apply the most current, science-based guidelines for treating heart attack patients and provides them with the tools needed to measure and achieve quality improvement goals.

CentraCare Heart & Vascular Center consistently followed the treatment guidelines in ACTION Registry®-GWTGTM for four consecutive quarters in ACTION Registry-GWTG and met a performance standard of 90% for specific performance measures to receive this 2015 award.

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) recognized our Telemetry Unit with the Silver Level Beacon Award for Excellence. The award recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards.
