Patient Instructions - Cystogram or Voiding Cystogram (VCUG)

A cystogram is an X-ray of the bladder, ureters and urethra. It is used to determine whether the bladder empties completely when you urinate. It also is used to diagnose reflux (in which urine backs up to the kidneys instead of flowing out through the urethra). A cystogram may detect abnormalities such as stones, tumors or damage due to injury.
