Varian High Dose Rate Remote AfterLoader (Varisource 200)
Installed at the Coborn cancer center in the Spring of 2007, the Varian High Dose Rate Remote Afterloader offers certain patients another option for their radiation therapy treatments. High Dose Rate (HDR) radiation therapy has allowed certain patients the option to receive large doses of radiation to the tumor site with a high degree of accuracy in a short period of time. This type of radiation treatment shortens the course of treatment for patients, which significantly decreases the interruption of a patient’s daily routine. Currently, Coborn Cancer Center offers this treatment, called Partial Breast Irradiation, to certain women with breast cancer, and GYN HDR to certain women with gynecological cancers. The hope is to expand this to other disease sites in the near future.
