Subacute Care
The Subacute Care program at St. Benedict’s Senior Community offers comprehensive health services for individuals with serious medical problems who no longer require the acute care provided in hospitals, but still need therapy, nursing care or other services.
Most patients of the subacute care unit come from a hospital setting and are recovering from illnesses or injuries such as fractures, joint replacements, pneumonia, stroke or multiple medical problems. Typically, subacute patients’ length of stay is less than 30 days, with an average stay of 18 days. Twenty-four beds, concentrated in one area of St. Benedict’s Senior Community, have been designated for subacute care.
The Subacute Care program offers many unique features and services that are unmatched in the Central Minnesota area. Caregivers include a medical director, a case manager and a discharge planner, who are all dedicated to meeting the needs of the patients. These individuals work with other professionals who have expertise in subacute care including nursing, occupational, physical and speech therapists, therapeutic recreation, nutrition and psychology. Because many of the subacute patients need intense levels of therapy, our program offers therapy two times a day, six days a week.
