Mary Ellen Wells, Administrator of CentraCare Health – Monticello, announced she will be resigning September 1, 2017.  Wells joined CentraCare Health – Monticello in 2013 and has led the organization through four years of growth and revitalization.

Under Wells’ leadership, CentraCare Health – Monticello:

  • affiliated with CentraCare Health
  • opened a new Birth Center and introduced midwife services
  • established a foundation to support local health and health care
  • opened the Monticello Surgery Center in partnership with Stellis Health, North Memorial and independent surgeons
  • became a 5 Star rated Care Center by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
  • implemented 24/7 general surgery care
  • established Spiritual Care services and opened a non-denominational Spiritual Center
  • expanded orthopedic surgery care
  • will soon be opening a new 10-bed Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit to help address the community’s need for mental health services

“I am proud of the accomplishments we have achieved together, and I carry a great love for the people and mission of CentraCare Health,” said Wells.  “It has been a privilege to serve at CentraCare Health – Monticello and support the health of the community.”

This fall, Wells will be joining the University of Minnesota as a senior lecturer and dyad leader for the Masters in HealthCare Administration (MHA) Program and its Alumni Association.  Wells is an alumna of the program and has been a passionate advocate and mentor to the University’s MHA students throughout her career.

“CentraCare has been fortunate to have Mary Ellen’s experience, energy, and leadership during our four years in Monticello,” said Craig Broman, President, St. Cloud Hospital and CentraCare Health Regional Hospitals.  “She has built trusted relationships, enhanced programs and facilities, and elevated a culture of caring and compassion.”

CentraCare Health will develop a succession plan over the coming months in preparation for a leadership transition this fall.
