Expert Care in Benson: Audiology Visit Eases a Mother's Concern About Son's Hearing.
When Jaxon, a lively six-year-old from the Benson area, failed a routine school hearing screening, his mother, Lacey Moser, didn't know quite what to expect. "We were sent home a letter from the school nurse saying he didn't pass the hearing screen and needed to be checked out by his provider," she recalls. That simple note set them on a path to audiology, an experience that turned out to be far more reassuring, and even enjoyable, than anticipated.
After a visit to Benson family medicine physician Dr. Josie Syverson, they were referred to Dr. Eric Christensen with CentraCare - Willmar Audiology, who sees patients in Benson twice a month.
"Dr. Christensen worked with my son from the very beginning," Lacey said. "He engaged directly with him and made the whole experience less intimidating."
The initial appointment involved a series of hearing tests in an audiology booth, which can seem a bit daunting to a child. "To a six-year-old, it looks kind of scary," she admits. "But Dr. Christensen eased Jaxon's fears by telling him it was like being in a spaceship. That made all the difference."

The testing process involved Dr. Christensen using a microphone to communicate with Jaxon from outside the booth. "He was very thorough and explained everything in a way that made sense to my son," Lacey added. "His communication was excellent—clear, kind, and age-appropriate."
The results brought a welcome sigh of relief. "Thankfully, we found out that Jaxon's hearing is normal," she said. No follow-up appointments or treatment were needed. But the experience itself left a lasting impression.
"For parents in the Benson area, I really recommend staying local and coming to CentraCare Audiology," Lacey said. "Dr. Christensen made it a fun and positive experience for both of us, and we felt like we were in great hands from start to finish."
Her advice to other families? "If your child doesn't pass a hearing screen or you have any concerns, don't hesitate. Get it checked out. It's worth the peace of mind and it might just be a much smoother experience than you expect."
