Published in Media Releases Author: CentraCare

More than 1,200 gifts totaling $200,880 were received from October through December of 2013 to wrap up CentraCare Health Foundation’s 2013 Community Campaign.

Thanks to the generosity of El-Jay Plumbing & Heating, donations up to $100,000 were matched to benefit the Coborn Cancer Center.

Each year, the Coborn Cancer Center serves more than 1,500 new cancer patients, delivers more than 7,500 chemotherapy and infusion treatments and 12,000 radiation treatments.

Donations to the Coborn Cancer Center support:

  • “Caring Conversations” events for couples and families with young children;
  • Counseling and educational classes for patients and their families;
  • Endowment to fund care coordinators, who assist patients with breast, lung and gastrointestinal cancers and their families through their cancer journey by providing assistance with appointments, procedures and treatment options; and
  • Participation in more than 50 clinical research studies.

“We are very grateful to our benefactors, whose gifts are making a difference in the lives of our families, friends and neighbors dealing with cancer,” said Mark Larkin, vice president of Philanthropy for CentraCare Health. “Thanks to the match provided by Andy and Jodi Fritz from El-Jay Plumbing & Heating, these gifts will make going through cancer treatment a little easier for patients. A special thank you to the Community Campaign committee who volunteer their time and talent to make this campaign a success: Gary Bechtold, Erin Bitzan, Andy Fritz, Jason Hallonquist, Berta Hartig, Robert W. Mahowald Jr., Steve Palmer and Doris Westra.”
