Minnesota is a great place to enjoy your golden years

Published in Senior Living, Senior Services Author: Brenda Turner

Since the baby boomers started turning 65, the U.S. elderly population is exploding. By 2050, the number of Americans 65 and older is estimated to reach 88.5 million.

If you want to be happy as you age, Minnesota is a great place to live. Minnesota ranks as the happiest state in America followed by Utah, Hawaii, California and Nebraska according to WalletHub.

To determine the happiest states, WalletHub’s analysts compared the 50 states across three key dimensions:

  1. Emotional and physical well-being
  2. Work environment
  3. Community and environment

Each state was evaluated using 28 metrics such as purpose, physical health, depression, sleep, income, credit score, volunteer rate, leisure time and safety. The analysts even gave points for ideal weather and Minnesota still was No. 1!

Studies have shown that happy people tend to be healthier. Happy people tend to eat better, sleep better, engage in physical activity, have a better immune system, deal with stress better and have lower blood pressure.
