Total body strengthening and wellness for seniors
Wellness/ Recreation Instructor
Chateau Waters
We all know and hear about how important it is to lead a healthy lifestyle through movement and physical activity. It leads to not only overall happiness — but also healthier bodies and minds. At Chateau Waters we have a variety of different wellness classes to hit each muscle group from your toes to the top of your head. We offer yoga, balance, strength, aqua aerobics, stretching and more.
The main focus is overall and total body wellness. All exercises at Chateau Waters are focused on total body strengthening and mobility. My role as the instructor is to:
- Get to know each individual and assess mobility and level of independence. Then build an exercise regimen to follow.
- Remove the stigma exercise and gyms may have. I’m here to show them there is nothing to be wary of and to encourage and motivate.
- Educate the importance of strength training and balance exercises.
- Encourage engagement in a variety of exercises. For example, try yoga, but also strength training and fit in a walk around the lake during your weekly exercise.
Our state-of-the-art fitness center features HUR equipment (designed specifically for seniors), a yoga studio with a ballet bar (allowing us to squats, lunges, hip abduction exercises, etc.) and a heated pool.
One of the things I stress in our classes is how important it is for us to listen to our bodies. We are not all at the same level and we are here to help you along the way.
For our tenants, it’s not just about the physical activity but also the social aspect as well. As an instructor, one of my favorite things to hear in class is “Is it over with already?” That tells me I am doing a great job. After all, time flies when you’re having fun.
