Description

This comprehensive one-day course is a validation of competency. Skills taught and knowledge assessed include: maternal and fetal physiology, interpretation of fetal and uterine monitor tracing, evaluation of auscultated fetal heart sounds, Leopold’s Maneuvers, placement of fetal spiral electrodes and intrauterine pressure catheters, and evaluation of strategies for enhancing communication.

Course Prerequisites
CentraCare recommends that participants have 6-12 months of full-time experience utilizing FHM technology. Individuals should have completed a basic or foundation FHM course and use FHM technology in their perinatal settings. Before taking the Intermediate Course, participants must have 6 months to a year of experience working in an obstetrics (OB) position. It is requested that participants complete the Introduction to Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) Online Course. This course can be purchased online at www.awhonn.org.
