BLS for Health Care Personnel
This class will train participants to save lives of victims in cardiac arrest through high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
The American Heart Association designed the BLS Provider Course to prepare healthcare professionals to know how to perform CPR in both in-and-out of hospital settings. This course trains participants to promptly recognize cardiac arrest, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), as part of a team and individually. This course also teaches how to relieve choking. The course includes adult, child and infant rescue techniques.
The American Heart Association’s (AHA) BLS Provider Course is completed in two parts.
Part 1: The AHA HeartCode BLS Online Course. This is a web-based course and accessible 24 hours a day and provides a flexible alternative to classroom training. Through case-based scenarios, interactive activities and videos, this course teaches concepts of both single-rescuer and team basic life support. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive an AHA Course Completion Certificate that they must print and bring with them to Part 2.
Part 2: BLS Skills Test-Out session. This is a hands-on skills practice and test out session with a certified AHA BLS Instructor.
An AHA BLS Provider course card will be issued upon successful completion of both parts.
