All About Flaxseed!

Each tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains about 1.8 grams of plant omega-3s. Omega-3s are “good fats” that can support heart health.

Flaxseed contains lignans. Lignans have both plant estrogen and antioxident qualities. Flaxseed contains 75 to 800 times more lignans than other plant foods.

Flaxseed contains both the soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber helps to keep you feeling full so you may consume less calories. Insoluble fiber helps to regulate your digestive tract.

Flaxseed is low in carbohydrates.

Add a tablespoon of flaxseed to your next smoothie for two grams of protein.

Whole flaxseed does not digest as well as ground flaxseed. If you don't digest the tiny seeds, you won't reap the nutritional and health benefits they offer. Most supermarkets and health food stores sell ground flaxseed. If you buy whole flaxseed, you can grind it in a coffee grinder.
