Hospitals must meet rigorous standards to be designated. To be designated as a Level III Trauma Center, Rice Memorial Hospital must continuously meet several criteria, including but not limited to:
- Having an emergency room that is staffed 24/7
- Having trauma surgeons and the operating room team available within 30 minutes of patient arrival
- Providing care under best practice care guidelines
- Providing injury prevention activities to the community
- Having transfer agreements in place for patients requiring more comprehensive care at a Level I or Level II Trauma Center
