Levels of Care

Your primary care clinician may recommend one or more of these options:

  • Inpatient services – If you’re overwhelmed or in danger of harming yourself or others, you stay at CentraCare – St. Cloud Hospital until you can safely transition to a lower level of care.
  • Partial hospitalization for adults – You live at home while visiting us each weekday for several hours of group therapy and activities.
  • Partial hospitalization for children – Your child ages 2 to 18 receives intensive therapy at CentraCare – St. Cloud Hospital Clara’s House.
  • Outpatient care – Take advantage of addiction services and therapy (counseling) for individuals, couples and families.

EmPATH Unit for Emergencies

The CentraCare Helmsley EmPATH Unit at St. Cloud Hospital offers a calming space if you experience:

  • Urgent thoughts of harming yourself or someone else
  • Hallucinations or delusions — seeing, hearing or believing things that aren’t real

You’ll appreciate the peaceful area that’s set apart from the rest of the busy emergency department. Mental health professionals assess you, start treatment and help you begin healing. You’ll most likely find stability within 24 hours, reducing the need for a hospital stay.

Funding for this unit comes from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust and CentraCare Foundation community donors.
