Suicide Warning Signs
Recognize behaviors that are common signs someone may be considering suicide:
- Acting recklessly or taking dangerous risks
- Eating and sleeping more or less
- Experiencing dramatic mood swings
- Feeling empty, hopeless or trapped
- Seeming extremely sad, anxious, agitated or angry
- Talking about wanting to die or making a plan
- Using alcohol or drugs more
- Withdrawing from friends, family and society
Responding to Suicide Warning Signs
If you notice these high-risk signs, talk to the person with care and understanding. Encourage the person to seek help from a mental health professional or a 24/7 helpline. If there’s an immediate mental health crisis, call or text 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or call 911 to get help.
