Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy uses drugs to kill cancer cells. Most likely, you’ll receive the medication as an infusion — through a vein (IV). During treatment, you can relax in a recliner while reading, watching TV, or enjoying free WiFi and snacks. Caring nurses monitor you during chemotherapy, help you manage the side effects and answer your questions.
Heart Care for Chemo Patients
Chemotherapy drugs can affect your heart. If necessary, a cardiologist will review your treatment plan and recommend ways to reduce the risk of heart problems. A nurse practitioner may also see you in our cardio-oncology clinic for follow-up visits. Your long-term health improves thanks to this comprehensive care.
Immunotherapy
Also called biotherapy, immunotherapy uses the power of your immune system to fight cancer. Your specific treatment may work by:
- Giving your immune system a boost
- Making cancer cells easier for your immune system to find and target
- Letting your immune system respond more strongly to cancer
Hormone Therapy
Hormone therapy starves tumors of the hormones they need to survive or grow. Your doctor may prescribe this medication as part of your care plan for breast cancer or prostate cancer.
Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy destroys tumors with high-energy X-rays. It uses a machine called a linear accelerator or small, radioactive pellets to target cancer cells in your body. Your care team will help protect nearby healthy tissue from radiation, so you experience fewer side effects.
Surgery
Surgery removes a tumor from your body. Your surgeon may also remove all or part of the tissue or organ it’s in, such as your colon, breast or prostate. This approach helps keep the cancer from coming back or spreading to other areas of your body.
Glioblastoma Treatment
If you have a brain tumor known as a glioblastoma, your doctor might recommend a new treatment option called Optune Gio. This wearable, portable device is for adults ages 22 and older. It works by creating electric fields that can slow down or stop cancer’s growth.
